Moving Beyond Cardio - F.ree E-book Download for AtoZfitness Subscribers

March 6 2008

I’m wondering how much information you have read on cardio – how to best perform it for optimal fat burn – getting more confused as you read, and ending up wondering who’s right.

Is it the advocates of steady state, long term cardio; or is it those who tell you to save time with the HIIT method of sprints alternating with walks?

I must admit, I’ve been as confused as the next person.

That was before Jon Benson sent us his little book, Moving Beyond Cardio.

Suddenly it all made sense.

I was easily able to plan my cardio workouts around my schedule and weight training.

We asked Jon if we could possibly offer it to our AtoZ Fitness subscribers free of charge and he said yes …

So grab your copy today and get your copy of Moving Beyond Cardio e-book before Jon changes his mind :)

Jon Benson on Calorie Cycling

Got this great article in yesterday from Jon Benson from
www.your7minutemuscle.com

Hi Lewis,

Did you see the article on MSNBC?

Oh. Now they catch on.

For years I’ve been extolling the benefits of eating fewer calories and exercising LESS (but with more intensity) in order to both build muscle mass and lose bodyfat. It works. I’ve done it for years. I’m not the first to do it, nor will I be the last, but it seems that this "old school" approach to fatloss nutrition and exercise is dying on the vine.

Granted, my new book "7 Minute Muscle" has boomed off the charts, so there’s still an interest in working out less. But what about eating less?

From MSNBC:

"While the quest for the proverbial Fountain of Youth is endless and typically fruitless, one method known to extend the human lifespan by up to five years has quietly become accepted among leading researchers. The formula is simple: Eat less. It could add years to your life, several experts now say. And done in moderation, it could at least help you live a more healthy life."

No s**t Einstein. Eat less. Live longer. Who’d thunk?

But seriously, why is this the case? And more importantly, why do so many other health and fitness pros give the opposite advice, often asking you to eat 5-8 times a day? Is there some common ground?

Yes there is. But first let’s look at why eating less can mean living longer.

Today’s article went on to say:

"Calorie restriction, as it is called, is as close to a real Fountain of Youth as any known technique comes.

Even scientists who are cautious about anti-aging hype say it works, both by cutting risks for some diseases and by allowing all body cells, somehow, to hang in there longer.

"This is just part of the story. As usual, the mainstream media doesn’t always bother to give you the entire picture.

That’s where guys like me come into the picture.

Ha…such a rebel.

Eating less is a bit over-simplistic. Caloric restriction is based on "quantitative" reduction, not simply eating like a bird or starving yourself. That will never work. You won’t stick to it and your body certainly won’t bother to burn off its spare bodyfat when it thinks you’re in a stone age famine.

I use the approach of eating far less for several days followed by a "feed day" — a day when I overeat on purpose. By planning my workouts around these days, I can maximize both muscle gain and fatburning at the same time, all while I enjoy some of my favorite foods on that higher-calorie day.

The net result is superior to merely "eating less" – you can gain lean tissue, which burns calories around the clock, and you can manage your insulin levels, blood sugar, and many other metabolic processes with greater ease thanks to the lower-calorie days. It’s literally having your cake and eating it too.

Now, here’s where the mainstream news misses the big

picture: Combine strategic under-eating with brief over-eating WITH short-duration weight training and the magic begins. Weight training has been shown to literally reverse many of the markers of aging from a cellular level. It is by far the best form of exercise for post-exercise caloric expenditure — i.e. burning more calories after the workout. And it’s the best way to shape the body. Cardio doesn’t hold a candle to weight training, especially when its done correctly.

—————————————————————–Learn more at http://your7minutemuscle.com

—————————————————————–

So, what about all this talk about "animal studies" in these news stories? Well, some of this is true. However there is a plethora of data from both life-extension-experts and real-world folks that justify the benefits of a lower-the-calories approach to living longer. Sure, "further studies are required", but a bit of common sense is as well.

Less calories means less stress on the body’s internal organs, digestive processes, hormonal processes and much more. Eating less creates a "clear" state in most people. Folks engaged in fasting usually report feeling exceptionally sharp and even vibrant several days into the fast. And we’re not talking about fasting here — we’re just talking about eating less most of the time.

My personal approach is to eat 2-3 meals per day of higher protein, higher fat, and lower carbohydrate, focusing on veggies for the carbs, for 2-3 days in a row. During these days my calories are often 50-65% of my maintenance level needs.. This is followed by a higher calorie day where I increase my intake of grains, starch, and take in a few more meals. When I’m wanting to really lean out, I will go 4-5 days on lower calories and lower carbs, making sure I keep my healthy fats nice and high, then have my high-calorie day.

Try this approach and combine it with my 7 Minute Muscle style of training. (I include my 3 Minute Abs routine in the book, as well as a 9-minute long university tested cardio routine.) The limited volume of training requires less of a caloric demand, allowing you to eat less, lose more bodyfat, and then boost yourself into "anabolic overdrive" on your higher-calorie days.

This combination allows me to gain muscle and burn bodyfat at the same time.

Try it – and, as I wrote in "7 Minute Muscle" and "Fit Over 40", the benefit may indeed by more than a leaner, more muscular body. You may just live longer to boot.

Sincerely,
Jon Benson

So Little Time!

Hi all,
This came in last night from my friend Jon Benson. Makes you stop and think .

Check it out.
Lewis

—————————————————-

Hi Lewis,

I had this all planned. Truly I did.

I was going to send you an email about my new book "7 Minute Muscle." I was going to tell you about how people are raving about it.

The book is here if you want to see it –

http://www.7minutemuscle.com  <— the new book

Then I was going to really drop a bomb on you.

I was going to tell you how you’re "wasting time".

About how you’re letting the hours slip through your fingers like sand on a forgotten beach.

And it’s true. You are wasting time. So was I.

I was wasting tons of time. Hours in the gym I didn’t need to spend in order to get a better body. Hours!

But then the events of the past two weeks unfolded.

And I stopped in my tracks.

First the horrible storms. Then the great Tim Russert passed away so many years before his time. Then the California fires. Then George Carlin. Like him or hate him, he was an icon.

And you know what? My book seemed even

MORE important to tell you about. Not less.

Sure, all this stuff is pretty heavy, but I refuse to experience anything for no reason.

How about you?

These events just reminded me of exactly how little time we have. They told me that we all need to do what it takes to get the most out of our days here on this beautiful blue marble called Earth.

My new System (a book and six online videos) is created to do just that –

>> help you add hours, even months to your life.

If ever we needed a reminder of how important those hours, months and years are then look no further than the evening news.

But there is something you can do about this.

You can start maximizing your days. You can get far more results in far less time using my System — and I put that in writing.

Go see –

http://www.7minutemuscle.com  <— click.here

Yes, I’m dead serious — 7 minutes in the gym.

14 minutes if your really advanced. 21 minutes if your a nut (i.e. bodybuilder like me… : )

But even I don’t do 21 minutes!

I know you have a lot of questions, so go visit my website today and learn how you can take back the hours, days, months and even years you are wasting in the gym.

Even if you don’t visit my site today, please take a deep breath and thank the heavens for the moments you have.

Thanks for reading,
Jon Benson

P.S.  I’ve included a freee bonus when you go to my page today called "The 7 Super Supplements".

This 31-page book contains only direct links to the 7 supplements documented to produce results in fatloss and muscle gain.

There are NO ads for these products…just the skinny on what really works. And even more important, what does not work… and what’s really dangerous.

Promise – this will both shock and enlighten you, and I bet you save bucks after reading it.

7-Minute Workouts That Build Muscle?

Hey all,

Got this from my buddy Jeff the Muscle Nerd and who better to explain Jon Benson;s 7 Minute Muscle then the muscle nerd himself.

Please note this is unedited and sent exactly as I received it from Jeff.

Hi lewis!

Last year at a seminar, I had a roommate who was also a fitness trainer and well respected in the industry.

Jon and I had talked a few times in the past and I’ve always been a fan of his work.

Then one night after a couple of beers, he began telling me about his latest "project"…

You see, he’d been working on a new bodybuilding program for about

2.5 years that he was designing for those who are "too busy" to workout.

He’d been researching some old training manuals from the 50’s, and 60’s (talk about "Old School"!) and had been experimenting with workouts as short as…

…get this…

…7 MINUTES!

Well, last week he sent me a preview copy of the program to check out and possibly promote to my subscribers.

Now, you KNOW I don’t promote "just anything" (and I get asked EVERY WEEK to help someone out).

And the one thing I tell ALL program developers is that I don’t hold anything back…I lay it out as I see it!

** Fair Warning **

Well, I finally got through the program (it’s actually a short read…but it’s very different so it takes a while to digest).

Since you’re probably going to be hearing a lot about this over the next week, I thought I’d give you my take on it…

…………………………………………………
*** 7-Minute Muscle - A Muscle Nerd Review ***

http://7minutemuscle.atozfitness.com << Click

…………………………………………………

The bottom line of the program is that you can stimulate both strength and mass gains by increasing the intensity of your workouts for shorter periods.

In this case…your "beginner" workout lasts just 7 MINUTES TOTAL!

There was actually a lot of research done on this in the "old days"

and the programs worked especially well for "older" trainees who took part in the numerous studies.

(Jon actually cites over 100 research studies to support his program’s effectiveness.)

Let me give you the points that stuck out the most for me…

>>> 1.  One of the core philosophies is the law of "progressive resistance" where each week you either add weight or repetitions to trigger you muscles to adapt.

Those who know me, know that I’m NOT a big fan of "progressive resistance".

But nearly every other "expert" (I said "NEARLY!) follows this basic philosophy and stands by it.

I’ll defend this as a myth until I die, but in the context of this program, I can see why it was added because the sessions ARE very short.

>>> 2.  The workouts I tested WERE very intense!

VERY fast paced and even though they’re short, they will kick your ass in some cases.

Fortunately, there’s an element of the program that uses "creative rest periods" that let you set your own pace so you don’t leave in an ambulance.

In any case, ANYONE can follow these workouts whether you’re young or old, beginner or advanced.

>>> 3.  One of John’s basic premises is that you need to stimulate as many muscle fibers as possible.

As those of you who just purchased my "Advanced Mass Building" program know, this is my latest "soapbox rant".

I was glad to see Jon echo my beliefs and the methods he uses DO in fact fall in line with how I teach my clients to accomplish this.

Jon goes into his methods in HOW he does this in his manual.

………………………………………………..

Do I recommend "7-Minute Muscle"?

Yes and No…

Let me explain…

Jon’s methods are well researched and very intriguing.  (As I said…he cites over 100 references for his project!)

>>> I DON’T recommend this program if…

…you’re a total "gym junkie" and the thought of a 7-minute workout is the equivalent of just 30 seconds of "great sex".

You’ll be in and out of the gym in no time and for some, that just doesn’t cut it.

I personally don’t always feel like working out, but when I force myself to get to the gym, I feel like sticking around (kind of like sex after 40 ;-)

>>> I DO recommend this program if…

* You’re someone who is looking for a new "twist" to add to your training program and willing to take a different approach.

* You’re a busy professional, mom, student, or someone who just wants to "get the workout over with" and still see results.

* You’re over 40′ish (Jon IS over 40 and an expert of fitness at this age and above) and have come to the realization you can no longer training like you were 20.

Plus…the program comes with 7 VIDEOS to help teach you this method for each body part which is pretty cool!

So with a program this far "out of the box", the decision will be up to you.

It DOES make my "recommended" list because there ARE some people who really need a short, but effective workout because they really don’t have much time on their hands.

You can decide for yourself by checking out this short website at… http://7minutemuscle.atozfitness.com

Thanks to Jon Benson for releasing a great f.ree e-book for me to send to my list.

It went with his brand new release of 7 Minute Muscle released on Friday . If you did not receive Sarah’s review of 7 Minute Muscle please see below the download link for the f.ree e-book 7 Super Supplements.

The f.ree e-book 7 Super supplements written by Jon Benson can be downloaded from this link :

Sarah’s review of 7 Minute Muscle is here in case you did not see it :

Ok we are now getting lot’s of e-mails on what is this new 7 Minute Muscle written by Jon Benson and the best way to let you know is through Sarah’s review.

We got our hands on a copy from Jon yesterday and Sarah has already devoured it and is going to start using it to train me soon as we finish the Combat the Fat challenge.

Sarah on 7 Minute Muscle

7MM for short. And that’s what this is about. Short. Save time. Train fast and furious and get on with other things.

Well, fast and furious, not quite. When you buy the 7MM e-book, the download page also gives you 6 videos showing you how to do the training involved. It’s not fast per se; just quick.

OK, let me explain that.

You train at a controlled speed and with good form, as always.

The time factor comes in the rest periods. That’s what’s fast.

You need … the e-book (and the videos help too), a stop watch, and a place to train. You can do this at your local gym, but make sure you wear a head set and the stop watch and keep your eyes to yourself, you don’t want anyone interrupting you! Or you can do it at home, depending on your preferences.

The 7 Minute Muscle e-book is jammed full of scientific research; but don’t worry, you know Jon Benson, he has to throw in a personal comment or ten, and it’s really an easy read.

You do need to be concentrated though, and I recommend taking a few notes along the way so you can go back and review certain passages.

Oh, there’s no index or chapters, so unless you take those notes, you may end up reading the whole thing one more time … actually, I will anyway. There’s so much information in those 83 pages, that one read won’t be enough to assimilate it all.

I mean, words like psychophysiology … I’d never heard of that before! Nor did I know the brain had so many waves … alpha, beta, delta, theta … sure, all letters in the Greek alphabet so the words are familiar enough, but to think they’re all in your brain - and more to the point, how you can control them to get an optimal workout and great body faster than by just going to the gym to pump some weights and chat with the other members! Awesome.

I love Jon’s work, that’s no secret. From Moving Beyond Cardio to Every Other Day Diet and Fit Over 40, I’ve read every word he’s put in there, as well as the Scaling The World series, and I looked at the MPower series as well.

Doesn’t it make sense to listen to a guy who’s been there (overweight, he even admits to obese) and is now where he is? Wouldn’t you think he knows what he’s talking about? I do, and I have already used EODD - actually I still do - and Beyond Cardio; and I admit I was waiting for him to come out with a muscle book to tie it all together. This is it. 7MM is out.

You know we’re still doing the Combat The Fat challenge … in fact we have 5 weeks left of that. We will then take a week off, to let our muscles and brains rest. And then? Well, it’s a no-brainer: 7MM

(Hope we can count on your votes for the Combat the Fat challenge when the time comes )

Who doesn’t have 7, 14 or 21 minutes a day to give to their bodies to keep them in optimum shape, healthy and ready for a long life? If one day you can’t get the 21 minutes, at least do 14. It’s less than a quarter of an hour!

Come on ladies, potatoes don’t boil that fast, you can get the workout done while they cook! See? Multitask. And the guys, unless you do the cooking, set the self-watering thingy on the lawn for 15 minutes and do your workout in the mean time. Yes, men can multi-task too, I just showed you how J

Basic lesson here: you owe it to yourselves to at the very least check this book out, and I cannot see anyone not being thrilled by it.

7 Minute Muscle. 7MM. I’ve printed my copy and it’s coming with me for the weekend! I’ll just read it on the screen today first, with notes taken.

Oh by the way, if you think it’s all about weights and exercises? Not really; it’s very much a mind thing; mind over matter. Your mind over your body. With great results once you grasp it and apply it.
