Holidays “over with” for this time
Well sort of
we still have a Shabbat dinner tomorrow night!
Result of the past two weeks … with 1 anniversary restaurant dinner on the day, one Christmas lunch on the 24th, my Christmas dinner that same night, the whole family for turkey dinner on the 25th, Shabbat dinner on the 26th, anniversary (belated) restaurant with the in-laws on the 29th, and last night’s supper (see my photos) … 7 treat meals in 13 days … four of them pretty much back-to-back! You’re thinking I did like everyone else, "put on weight" right?
Well, to a degree, you’d be right in that assumption; I did go up 2½ lbs (1 kilo) over that period. HOWEVER, and I want you to take note here: my bodyfat level dropped by 1.07%
Yes, I burned a pound of fat (almost 500 gr) over the Holidays. These Holidays that you keep getting e-mails beforehand on how to "survive"! The Holidays that most people spend adding 5-6 pounds to their bodies – and in that case, there’s added fat as well, not just overall weight.
OK, but then, if I burned a pound of fat, what’s the weight gain from? To be totally honest, as well as totally blunt: crap. Literally
. I’ve been "going" less because of the food choices, the extras and the back-to-back treat meals. Even making the best choices from the tables full of mostly not-so-good choices; even making sure I drank 4 liters of water and/or lemon water per day; the added coffee and alcohol and some desserts and occasional starch a little to late; have all built up in the "pipes".
A little could also be water retention due to said coffee and alcohol. Oh, when I say "coffee and alcohol", it means 1 cup vs 0, and 2 glasses of red wine or champagne vs 0
not liters of either!
I stuck to my workout plan throughout the Holidays – starting the New Year this morning with a leg workout, same leg workout I did on Chritmas Day, only a few more reps today! I got it "out of the way" early in the day, before preparations for other things "got in the way" and gave me bad excuses to skip the gym that day.
In addition, I made sure to stay hydrated, adding more water than the usual 4 liters if there was a little more alcohol than necessary (all over 0 pretty much, but as a woman 1 glass of red wine is "acceptable" according the experts – if we should believe them).
The result is clear – the Holidays are not necessarily identical to "weight gain" in the traditional sense of the word, or fat gain in the fitness world sense of it. Did I "survive" the Holidays? I’d say I did
once the added build-up is cleared out, I’ll be "lighter" on the scales, and I’m already leaner as it is!
My solution to the "weight" gain is to do a light, natural detox; no powdes, no pills, a no "no food" plan, just a basic cleansing. The trouble is, we do have the Shabbat dinner again tomorrow night, and I can’t very well detox through that!
Well, I have a solution to that too! I’ll do a full detox day today, and a partial tomorrow – watching the supper and leaving out the starches although I love the challa bread and knishes! Then I do an actual detox week starting Saturday, just one day shorter than normal as I did a week of this early December.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all my blog-readers and their families!

But here’s a guy, who really sports a great set of abs, telling us what to do to get that look. I know, he’s not the first one to do so, there are other books available, some great, others good, and many mediocre to lousy, but this one places among the great. And Jamin is really a nice guy too!
