Common OTC Medication Depletes Life-Saving Nutrient

Many Adverse Drug Events (ADR’s) are not caused by the drug directly. Instead, they are the result of drug-induced nutritional deficiencies.

One glaring example of this would be Aspirin™.

Marketed and prescribed for daily use to prevent heart attack, Aspirin™ depletes the body of the life-saving nutrient folic acid (as well as iron, potassium, sodium and vitamin C).

Back - and other - pains

This isn’t my regular subject, although I do pull the alert cord on certain drugs from time to time. I’m not even getting the following from my “regular” source (Shane Ellison) but from Jesse Cannone. Here it is, get ready to be scared:

Dear sarah,If you are currently taking NSAID’s (non steroidal anti inflammatories), have in the past, or may in the future, this just might change your mind…According to Dr. J.S. Hochman, MD of the National Foundation for the Treatment of Pain, NSAID’s kill approximately 16,500 people each year in the United States alone.

Disappointed, but …

I had subscribed to an on-line trainers’ program so that I could give my clients maximum help and support, as well as good exercise and nutrition programs just around New Year this year. Well, disappointment.

The exercise programs aren’t that great, there’s a lot of emphasis on specific supports such as exercise balls and bosu-balls rather than benches, quite a few exercise descriptions are “backwards” compared to the more established ones I have in my library.

The nutrition program … well there’s a list of foods and their calorie totals, but not one template which works out the percentages over the entire day with the ratios protein-carbs-fat.

NEWS and MORE

Hello there, me again :) Well, on my blog, who else would it be, right?

I have had a great week, both in the gym and in the cardio room. Yesterday was a no-cardio-day because the streaks took too long and the day just flew, so I made up for it today by doing over an hour of vacuuming, floor wash, bathroom cleaning, bed straightening, fridge washing and packing one box … all full speed to keep the blood flowing. An hour later I’m still warm and my skin is still tingly! So yes, you can some useful cardio once in a while. Just make sure you keep up the pace, work at it, run the stairs if have any and need to change floors to clean; step up and down off a chair to get things out of cabinets rather than stretching and maybe hurting yourself in the process.

cardio day

Today is cardio day. How come I’m sitting here on my computer then? I was quick to go down to my gym yesterday for the weight training, but the cardio … And it’s just in the next room too, no need to go down two flights of stairs like for the gym. Yet it seems harder to get up and go into that room …

Why is it we don’t like doing cardio? It’s crazy, because we all know it helps burn fat, right? Adding muscle helps a lot too, and by keeping the rest period between sets at around 30 seconds, the weight training can actually be pretty aerobic and cardio-like as well. But the pure cardio …

Update on …

… on what?

My progression. Well, you didn’t think I’d given up on the training and fat burn did you?

By the way, how many of you think it’s better to jog/ run than to “just” walk briskly?  Many, I’ll bet. More media induced idea.

I just read that both methods of calorie-consumption are close to equal in the number of calories you actually burn, but the difference lies in which of the methods actually takes the most energy from your fatty reserves -  which is what’s interesting when you get right down to it - and some bright brain has come up with … 45% of the energy used when running comes from your bodyfat.

PS :)

OK, my update sort of vanished in the info on walking vs running :) and for some reason, when I went back to edit I couldn’t get the entire post up to edit it, just half … so the solution seems to be a PS :)
Anyway, update on me …

I went ahead with my initial plan of weights and little cardio, watching my nutrition … and the scales just kept creaping up. Not a worry, I checked and it was just muscle mass adding itself on, which is good.

The “PUMP”! Mass Building Myth…Or LEGEND?!

By The “Muscle Nerd”, Jeff Anderson

Ever see those documentary television shows “Animals Gone Wild”?  (no…NOT “GIRLS Gone Wild”!  A-N-I-M-A-L-S!)

You know…the ones where normally docile animals scratch, claw, kick, bite, peck, gnaw, or otherwise DEVOUR another animal right before your eyes?

Well, here’s a challenge for you…

Throw a hundred fitness consultants in a room and ask them to debate whether or not that huge “PUMP” you get in the gym is REALLY building you any muscle…or if it’s just a useless ego booster…then watch them start scratching out eyes as the debate heats up! ;-)
Yep…tempers flare on this topic and opinions are all over the board…so how would you like a little help from the scientific community on whether or not you should be ignoring the pump…or whether it’s your best friend in the gym?

Spring is approaching

I know there are many out there who are  unhappy about the added winter pounds, mostly new fatty deposits. There is still lots of time to do something about that, and I want to start out by offering you something for free. There are things you can buy afterwards if you want to, but NO OBLIGATION, it REALLY IS FREE :

I just found out about a revealing new video that details fat loss and fitness expert Rob Poulos’ top 3 principles for permanent fat loss and fitness, and it’s yours, completely “on the house”…my gift to you.

Trans Fatty Acids

Most people have heard that this is not something healthy, that they should, in fact, avoid it as much as possible. I even heard recently that it’s chemicals and plastic components that make up the stuff. And it’s everywhere, also in CoffeeMate (I discovered that accidentally, never thought it would be in there!)

This morning, I went on Google, this is just too much to just think I know. I want to know I know!  I want to share a little of what I found today with you over the next few days or so, starting with the Wikipedia definition and explanation:
