“extreme makeover”

What do you do if your gym has three benches you can incline at any angle you need,and one totally flat one, and no decline bench at all?

We’ve been building the flat one up at one end with weight plates and dumbbells for months now, a workout in itself! And so much so that very few even attempt decline presses at all.

WELL, JUDGE FOR YOURSELF! I say no more, except … thanks Tom!

Stress and records

Seems stress and personal issues are great for breaking records. At least that’s what happened yesterday. After 3 weeks of getting very little sleep - yet being totally alert and “with it” - and not being on top of the nutrition (I must admit), I just felt that record-breaking feeling creeping over me as I walked into the gym yesterday.

motivation

I know people often lose motivation. They start out with all kinds of good intentions, only to drop everything at the slightest setback. Why? I see a lot of this here at the gym all the time. There are so many who join and then just disappear before their bodies have even had a chance to respond to the changes.

Summer’s over

body { margin-left: 10%; margin-right: 10% }

Officially of course, it’s still summer. But it is obvious that it’s not going to be hanging around for much longer. The nights are fresher, the mornings are getting foggy as soon as the sun rises - then the sun does dissipate that light fog, but still - and the days aren’t as long anymore.

I will be back with more serious entries from next week.

Need a man - for car repairs :-)

body { margin-left: 10%; margin-right: 10% }

What’s wrong with my … car? It was flying down the highway earlier today, then taking the very tight curves down hill to the town where I live at about 30 mph (not one car can follow me there, unless it’s another flat sports job). I was ready to do a repeat performance going back up, but … sputter, loss of power, crawling speed!? What the h…!!!?

Macho, macho man …

Remember that song by the Village People? Couoldn’t help thinking about that this morning.

Why is it that men (in general, there MUST be exceptions, surely!) have no problems with us women doing some of the heavy out doors jobs (like mowing the lawn, raking branches and leaves, washing the car, clearing snow …) and even sees it as normal; but have to be patted on the back, admired and almost given a “gold star” when they have done it themselves? Same thing if they, by some miracle, take out the vacuum cleaner; seems they deserve a medal the way they go on about it! Do they even notice when we do it? And the laundry, dishes, windows, ironing, changing the sheets on the beds, cooking … when did you last get any encouraging words for those jobs ladies? I can’t remember personally!

Legs, after 3 weeks

body { margin-left: 10%; margin-right: 10% }

Two weeks away from the gym. One week back, but only getting to the legs today. That gave me a full 3 weeks with no other leg exercise than walking. Was I ever worried about the squats this morning … kept circling the rack, looking at it as if it was going to tell me what to do. Should I load up with the 70 kilos I ended up three weeks earlier, or just drop to 65 right off?
