COLD and WET MONTH of MAY

I was watching CNN this morning, for the weather, and they were saying we have had the coldest and wettest month of May in years. As if I hadn’t noticed, thanks. But who cares ?

This morning, the sun is shining, never mind the cold north wind blowing at 28 kilometers an hour. I noticed it when I was out at 6 this morning, but behind the windows at the gym I promise you it’s nice and warm.

CLEANSING before D-DAY

Have you ever tried an inner cleansing?! Not the nicest thing to get yourself into. Oh, I’m fine really, the trouble is … food! I can’t wait till Wednesday and start having my oatmeal again. Two more days.

I know, the normal thing to do, is to start a cure like that on a Saturday, so that you have the weekend to cleanse your system. The thing is, when did I last do anything “normally”? Can’t remember :-) it’s just not me. I don’t fit into any mold anyone wants to come up with. (Besides, we had company yesterday). So I started today (Sunday) just before coming to work. So?

Shopping in Sweden

Just thought I’d show you 1) how I looked on May 13th, and 2) how much stuff we got when we went to Sweden that day shopping. The white buckets are whey protein, the smaller one too (chocolate mint - yuck !) and everything on them is from the health food store. The rest is … well, some clothes, some meat, and generally things you don’t find in Norway.

This is how the terrace in front of my house looked after a night’s snowfall. Nice to wake up to :-( Then again, it’s a great cardio workout :-) Just look at the result after I’d been at it for an hour and a half, non stop of course, because if I stop I know I don’t get going again.

Now there’s no more snow of course, but the lawn needs mowing. Does it ever stop ?

WEEKEND and RAIN

So it rained, so what ? Who cares ? No point griping about it, it won’t stop anyway, so just make the best of it, right ?

Honestly though, I was glad it was Saturday and I didn’t have to get up at 6 a.m. to walk (I take Saturdays off), because the rain was really hammering away at the roof. I’d have had to wear my rubber boots, and they’re really no good for walking.

Is it hard, or easy ? Well, YES.

Make sense ? Maybe not if you think about it, because this is not a yes or no question at first glance. On the other hand, in a way it is. OK, I hear you males out there, “female logic” and all kinds of silly comments. Never mind, I’ll explain anyway, so you can grasp the female thought here :-)
I’ve been thinking, not filosophising exactly, but thinking. A few people around me (not family) are impressed with my (evident) progress these past 4 months. I mean, everybody doesn’t go from 38% to 20% bodyfat in 4 months. I know that, and I guess I must have quite a bit of the mesomorph in me to even manage that. However, I know I’ve got my share of the endomorph as well (wish I didn’t, but I can’t choose I guess) and not much ectomorph - if any at all !

I’M DISAPPEARING

About that title, I’m not really, it’s just what people keep telling me lately. “You have to stop losing weight or there won’t be anything left of you !” Sure. Ever heard of replacing fat with muscle ? Evidently not. I walk into another store “There’s less of you every time I see you, you’ll have to stop !” Why should I ? Or “Where are you going to end, you’ll get anorexic at this rate.” What, with all the food I eat every day ? Fat chance people ! Besides, not eating has never been an option, I love food too much for that :-)
Funny though, comments like that could make someone actually stop. Stop watching their nutrition, stop doing cardio, stop working out, just get sedate again. Not me, no way, no more. I just let them talk. Some I try to explain the idea to, but mostly I let it go - even those coming up to the gym and asking for a program don’t really listen (only a few actually do, but do they follow up at home ?) so why waste my breath on those not really interested but more likely jealous.

WEEKEND - or almost

Today’s been a good day, everything’s worked out the way I wanted - or almost. I’m inventing some new words concerning this blogging thing, but I’ll win ! Sooner or later.

Anyway, I started out walking 5 mintes faster thanyesterday doing the same circuit. Instead of slowign down after walking the 2 kilometers downhill to the seafront to get up again, I just “kicked in the overdrive” and kept right on going. Strange what an MP3 can do :-) even more so when it’s coupled with brilliant sunshine reflecting on the calm sea.

Ever had a day go just right fron beginning to - well, now ? This has been one of those days.

It started out with my early morning cardio … yup, still at it :-) I’ve changed my route, walking 2 kilometers downhill, around a cemetary and back up again for 2 kilometers all uphill ! The uphill part next to the cemetary is PERFECT for “walking lunges” too. Today I did the whole circuit 5 mintues quicker than yesterday. Two reasons : 1, I had the MP3 in my ears; and 2. instead of slowing the pace going back up, I “kicked in the overdrive” and just kept on walking ! Not even winded !

Ever seen a “before” and “after” in the same picture before ? Well, here I am on the left as the “after” and my sister-in-law on the right is still the way I was “before” ! She’s been going to aerobics classes twice a week for the past 5 years and just seems to be getting bigger each year. OK, her regular Saturday night pizzas (home made) and cakes all weekend don’t help :-) The point isn’t really whether she’s wrong and I’m right (with strength training), it’s just … this is how I looked last summer, and look at me now !!!
